Changing your VPS or Dedicated Server root password

Changing your VPS root password will be a cup of tea for you after reading this article.

If you don’t have a control panel for your VPS, don’t worry. We’ll show you how to change it using SSH. Here’s how you do it:

  1. Firstly, access your hosting server using SSH.

  2. Once logged in, type in the command - passwd & hit Enter

  3. Set a new password and confirm it.

That's it. Your password has been updated.

If you’ve got cPanel, you need not access your server using SSH. You can do it using WHM. Here’s how you do it:

  1. Login to WHM from your Control Panel.

  2. In the Server Configuration section, Click on "Change Root Password"

  3. Set a new password and confirm it

  4. Click on "Change Password"

That’s it. Your root password is now updated.
